What is immunotherapy?

Immunotherapy is a new type of cancer medicine that works by activating the patient's immune system to fight cancer. Two types of immunotherapy drugs, CAR-T cells and checkpoint inhibitors, have been shown to be effective in treating patients.

Stimulates the immune system to produce immune cells.
By making it easier for the immune system to identify cancer cells

Which immunotherapy drugs are available in Nepal?

Currently Nivolumab and Pembrolizumab are two Immunotherapy drugs available in Nepal. Other drugs are in the process of coming and will be available soon.

The cost of immunotherapy is currently around Rs 3-4 lakh a month. As these drugs are expensive, they are being used only in a few patients. But prices are falling and many patients will receive 

What are the possible side effects?

The side effects of immunotherapy are mild in most patients. But some people may have serious allergic side effects that can be dangerous.

When to use immunotherapy drugs?

It is often used as a last resort. But gradually it has been used in many diseases along with chemotherapy or as an alternative to chemotherapy.

How is it administered?

It is given intravenously by mixing it with saline.
