Kathmandu Cancer Center launches service for kids and young adults with blood issues and cancers, led by wonderful Dr. Ritu Lamichhane. A much needed service in Nepal, this is a step towards close the care gap.

Newly established Pediatric Hematology and Oncology unit will do diagnosis and treatment of blood and immune disorders that affect children, adolescents, and young adults.

We work together as a team to develop treatments to cure blood and bone marrow complications whenever possible. The aim of treatment plans, is to relieve symptoms and improve quality of life. Our team includes pediatric hematologist-oncologists, nursing professional , pharmacists, physiotherapists , psychologists, and patient care coordinators.

Acute lymphoid leukemia (ALL) – Most common childhood blood cancer , which involves abnormal growth of a type of immature white blood cell called lymphoblasts.

Who treats childhood cancers ?

Childhood and adolescent cancers are usually treated at a children’s hospital by doctors specializing in pediatric cancers. These doctors are pediatric oncologists. Childhood cancer requires specialized treatment and care, which is why dedicated hospital units and multidisciplinary teams play a crucial role in supporting young patients.

What Is Hematology?

Hematology is the study of blood and blood diseases. Doctors who treat blood problem in children are is a pediatric hematologist and oncologist. This have unique training in treating blood problem. Common blood problem in Nepal are different typers of anemia like sickle cell anemia, aplastic anemia and other bone marrow failure syndromes, Thalassemia, Immune Thrombocytopenia etc
