Tobacco use in Nepal
It is estimated that about 20 percent of the total population of Nepal consumes tobacco products. The number of people in the age group of 15 to 20 years is increasing due to smoking. Public health champions from around the world are celebrating World No Smoking Day this year. Such programs will focus on the environmental impact of tobacco use.
Apart from lungs cancer , head and neck and tongue cancer is also quite common in Nepal. It is mainly due to habit of consuming smokeless chewing tobacco like paan parag, gutka, khaini etc. Similarly young people are using hookah and sisha thinking these are safe. But they are equally harmful to health. E-cigarette and vaping are also as dangerous as cigarette.
