Palliative & Supportive Care
At Kathmandu Cancer Center, palliative care is not just about advanced cancer — it starts from the day of diagnosis. Our team helps you manage pain, symptoms, and emotional challenges so you can focus on what matters most.
KEY FACTS
Cancer pain is real — but it does not have to be your daily reality. At KCC, we follow international and NAPCARE-approved protocols to control pain and other distressing symptoms at every stage of your illness.
We help you manage:
Our pain protocols are aligned with WHO analgesic ladder guidelines and audited against NAPCARE national standards.
Every patient receives a personalised pain plan. We use the WHO analgesic ladder — from simple painkillers to morphine when needed — always safe, always monitored. No one should suffer in silence.
Did you know?
Morphine and other opioid medicines are legally available in Nepal. KCC works with NAPCARE and the Department of Drug Administration to ensure our patients get what they need — without unnecessary suffering.
A cancer diagnosis can bring fear, sadness, anger, and deep uncertainty — for the patient and the entire family. You are not alone. Our counsellors and support team are here to listen and walk with you, at every step.
Support for families too.
We offer caregiver counselling because we know that family members carry a heavy emotional load. Talking helps — and it makes a difference to how the whole family copes.
We help with:
Our counselling team speaks Nepali, Hindi, and English. Sessions are private and confidential. There is no judgment — only support.
Sessions available at KCC Main Hospital (Bhaktapur) and KCC City Clinic (New Baneshwor).
For bereaved families
We provide bereavement support for families who have lost a loved one to cancer. Our counsellors are available for follow-up sessions after loss.
Research shows that addressing emotional health during cancer treatment improves treatment adherence, reduces hospital stays, and significantly improves quality of life.
Psycho-oncology is not an optional extra. It is a core part of modern cancer care.
Psycho-oncology is a specialised field that addresses the psychological, social, and behavioural aspects of living with cancer. At KCC, psycho-oncology services are integrated into your overall care plan from the very beginning - not added as an afterthought.
Our psycho-oncology support includes:
Palliative care at KCC addresses every dimension of wellbeing — not just physical symptoms, but the whole person.
Pain control, nutrition support, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation to keep you comfortable and as mobile as possible throughout treatment.
Counselling, support groups, and one-to-one therapy to address fear, anxiety, and depression at every stage of the cancer journey.
Helping you stay connected with family, friends, and community. Practical support for daily challenges and social reintegration.
Respectful, culturally-sensitive spiritual care — available on request — to help you find meaning, peace, and dignity at every stage.

When used as prescribed for cancer pain, the risk of addiction is very low. Our doctors monitor you closely and adjust medicines safely. Pain control and addiction risk are very different things — we can explain this to you in detail at your first visit.
