KEY FACTS

What is palliative care? Specialised medical care focused on relieving pain, symptoms, and stress of serious illness — for any stage of cancer.
Who provides it? A multidisciplinary team: radiation oncologist, medical oncologist, pain specialist, psycho-oncologist, nurses, and counsellors.
Where is it available? KCC Main Hospital (Bhaktapur) — inpatient & OPD; KCC City Clinic (New Baneshwor) — consultation & follow-up.
Guided by NAPCARE (Nepalese Association of Palliative Care) pain management guidelines.

Pain and Symptom Management

Cancer pain is real — but it does not have to be your daily reality. At KCC, we follow international and NAPCARE-approved protocols to control pain and other distressing symptoms at every stage of your illness.

We help you manage:

  • Cancer pain — mild, moderate, and severe
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Breathlessness (dyspnoea)
  • Fatigue and weakness
  • Constipation and loss of appetite
  • Insomnia and sleep disturbance

Our pain protocols are aligned with WHO analgesic ladder guidelines and audited against NAPCARE national standards.

Our Pain Promise

Every patient receives a personalised pain plan. We use the WHO analgesic ladder — from simple painkillers to morphine when needed — always safe, always monitored. No one should suffer in silence.

Did you know?

Morphine and other opioid medicines are legally available in Nepal. KCC works with NAPCARE and the Department of Drug Administration to ensure our patients get what they need — without unnecessary suffering.

Emotional and Psychological Support

A cancer diagnosis can bring fear, sadness, anger, and deep uncertainty — for the patient and the entire family. You are not alone. Our counsellors and support team are here to listen and walk with you, at every step.

Support for families too.

We offer caregiver counselling because we know that family members carry a heavy emotional load. Talking helps — and it makes a difference to how the whole family copes.

We help with:

  • One-on-one counselling sessions
  • Family and caregiver support
  • Coping strategies for anxiety and depression
  • Spiritual care (on request, across traditions)
  • Peer support connections with other patients
You Are Not Alone

Our counselling team speaks Nepali, Hindi, and English. Sessions are private and confidential. There is no judgment — only support.

Sessions available at KCC Main Hospital (Bhaktapur) and KCC City Clinic (New Baneshwor).

For bereaved families

We provide bereavement support for families who have lost a loved one to cancer. Our counsellors are available for follow-up sessions after loss.

Why It Matters

Research shows that addressing emotional health during cancer treatment improves treatment adherence, reduces hospital stays, and significantly improves quality of life.

Psycho-oncology is not an optional extra. It is a core part of modern cancer care.

Psycho‑oncology

Psycho-oncology is a specialised field that addresses the psychological, social, and behavioural aspects of living with cancer. At KCC, psycho-oncology services are integrated into your overall care plan from the very beginning - not added as an afterthought.

Our psycho-oncology support includes:

  • Psychological assessment at the time of diagnosis
  • Counselling during active treatment and survivorship
  • Support for treatment-related anxiety (scanxiety, needle phobia)
  • Depression screening and management
  • Adjustment disorder and existential distress support
  • End-of-life psychological care
  • Bereavement support for families after loss
