- हरेक दिन बायोप्सी हुन्छ। लामो पर्खाइ पर्दैन।
- सिटी स्क्यान वा अल्ट्रासाउन्ड हेर्दै सुई ठीक ठाउँमा पुर्याइन्छ। अपरेसन चाहिँदैन।
- २० देखि ३० मिनेट लाग्छ। धेरैजसो बिरामी सोही दिन घर जान्छन्।
- प्याथोलोजी ल्याब KCC भित्रै छ। रिपोर्ट ३ देखि ५ दिनमा।
- रिपोर्ट आएपछि त्यही टोलीले उपचारको योजना बनाउँछ।

- ब्रेकी-एब्लेसन: सिटी स्क्यान हेर्दै पातलो नली गाँठोभित्रै पुर्याएर भित्रबाट रेडिएसन दिइन्छ।
- गाँठोको वरिपरिको स्वस्थ फोक्सो र कलेजो जोगिन्छ।
- अपरेसन गर्न नमिल्ने वा थोरै ठाउँमा फैलिएको क्यान्सरमा काम लाग्न सक्छ।
- यो उपचार नेपालमा केवल KCC मा छ। हाम्रो अध्ययन अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय "Brachytherapy" जर्नलमा छापिएको छ।
- सबै बिरामीलाई मिल्दैन। स्क्यान हेरेर डाक्टरले भन्छन्।

बायोप्सी रिपोर्ट कति दिनमा आउँछ?
साधारणतया ३ देखि ५ कार्यदिनमा आउँछ। प्याथोलोजी ल्याब KCC भित्रै छ। मोलेक्युलर जस्ता विशेष जाँचमा केही बढी समय लाग्न सक्छ। रिपोर्ट आएपछि हाम्रै टोलीले उपचारको योजना बनाउँछ।
बायोप्सी गर्दा क्यान्सर फैलिन्छ भन्ने कुरा सही हो?
यो धेरै मानिसको डर हो, तर सम्भावना निकै कम हुन्छ। कुन क्यान्सर हो थाहा नभई सही उपचार छान्न सकिँदैन। त्यसैले गाँठो वा शंका लागेमा बायोप्सी ढिला नगर्नुस्।

Find out what the lump really is
A thin needle takes a tiny sample. CT or ultrasound lets the doctor see the needle on screen, so it reaches exactly the right spot, even deep inside the body.

How it goes
- Call or WhatsApp us with your scans. We tell you which test is right.
- The area is numbed. The biopsy takes 20 to 30 minutes.
- Most people go home the same day. Report in 3 to 5 days.
- Old reports and CT, MRI or X-ray films (or the CD)
- A list of your medicines. Tell us if you take blood thinners like aspirin or warfarin.
- A family member to come with you
Lung and liver cancer treatment without an operation
Image-guided brachy-ablation. Under CT guidance, a thin tube is placed inside the tumour and radiation is given from within. The healthy lung or liver around it is spared.
- For tumours that surgery cannot reach, or for patients who are not fit for an operation.
- Also for cancer that has spread to only a few places in the lung or liver (oligometastasis).
- Often finished in one session, done through a needle puncture, no big cut.

Most of these are done through a small needle hole, under local anaesthesia, with live imaging.
Liver tumour ablation

Heat through a needle (RFA or microwave) destroys small liver tumours without surgery.
Jaundice relief (PTBD)

A thin tube drains a blocked bile duct, so yellow eyes and itching often improve within days.
Kidney drainage (PCN)
मिर्गौलाबाट पिसाब निकास
When a tumour blocks urine, a small tube protects the kidney so treatment can continue.
Fluid drainage

Fluid in the belly or around the lung is drained to ease swelling and breathlessness.

Where can I get a biopsy in Kathmandu, and do I need an appointment?
Kathmandu Cancer Center (KCC) at Tathali, Bhaktapur does CT-guided and ultrasound-guided biopsy every working day. Please call 01-5091629 or send your reports on WhatsApp 9818-226237 first, so we can plan the right test for you. You do not need a referral letter.
Is a biopsy painful? Do I have to stay in hospital?
Most people feel a small pinch from the numbing injection, then a little pressure. The procedure usually takes 20 to 30 minutes. General anaesthesia is not needed, and most people go home the same day.
How many days does the biopsy report take?
The report is usually ready in 3 to 5 working days, because the pathology lab is inside KCC. Special tests, such as molecular tests, are sent to an outside lab and can take longer. Once the report is ready, our team plans your treatment together, so you do not have to start again at another hospital.
Does a biopsy spread cancer?
This is a common fear, but the chance is very small. A biopsy is the only sure way to know what kind of cancer it is, and the right treatment depends on that. Delaying the biopsy is the bigger risk.
Can liver cancer be treated without surgery?
In selected patients, yes. Small liver tumours can be destroyed with heat through a needle (RFA or microwave ablation). Tumours that are not suitable for these can be treated with brachy-ablation, where radiation is placed inside the tumour. Our team studies your scans and recommends the best option for you.
Can lung cancer be treated without surgery?
Brachy-ablation can treat selected small lung tumours, or cancer that has spread to only a few places in the lung (oligometastasis). A thin tube is placed in the tumour under CT guidance and radiation is given from inside. KCC is the only centre in Nepal offering this, and our results were published in Brachytherapy, the journal of the American Brachytherapy Society. It does not suit every patient, so please send your CT scan for review.
How much does a biopsy cost at KCC?
The cost depends on the part of the body and the tests needed. Please call 01-5091629 and we will tell you the amount before you come.
