KCC Cancer Screening

Find cancer early.
Before symptoms begin.

Cancer screening is for people who feel well. The right screening test can find certain cancers or early changes before symptoms appear.

Screening recommendations depend on your age, risk factors and family history.

✓

Screening is not the same for everyone

Choose the test that fits your risk.

  • ✓ Breast cancer screening
  • ✓ Cervical cancer screening
  • ✓ Colorectal cancer screening
  • ✓ Prostate cancer screening
  • ✓ Lung cancer screening for eligible high-risk people
Why screening?

You do not have to wait for symptoms.

Screening looks for cancer or early changes in people who do not have symptoms. It is different from a medical consultation for a new lump, unexplained bleeding, persistent cough or other warning signs.

Not everyone needs every screening test. Your age, family history, previous medical history, smoking history and other risk factors help determine what is appropriate.

At KCC, our aim is to help you choose the screening that makes sense for you rather than ordering unnecessary tests.

Before you book

Screening depends on more than age.

Age is an important starting point, but it is not the only factor. A family history of cancer, smoking, previous abnormal tests and other risk factors can change the recommended approach.

Your age

Different screening tests become useful at different ages. Some are repeated regularly, while others may only be needed at certain intervals.

Your risk

Smoking history, previous medical conditions and other risk factors can mean that screening should start earlier or follow a different schedule.

Your family history

Cancer in a close relative can sometimes change when screening should begin or whether additional assessment is appropriate.

Important: If you already have symptoms such as a new lump, unexplained bleeding, persistent cough, unexplained weight loss or a change in bowel habits, you may need a medical consultation rather than a routine screening appointment.

If your result is abnormal

An abnormal screening result does not necessarily mean cancer.

Screening is designed to identify changes that may need further assessment. Many abnormal screening results are not cancer.

01

Your result is reviewed

Your report is reviewed and the result is explained to you in language you can understand.

02

Further testing may be needed

If cancer is diagnosed

KCC specialists can assess the diagnosis and discuss the appropriate treatment options with you and your family.
